What's Actually New On St. Petersburg's Food Scene This Summer

July 9, 2026

If you have lived in St. Pete for more than a few years, you have probably learned to shrug at restaurant announcements. Central Park Food Hall alone was rumored to be "coming soon" for six years. This summer is different, and the reason it is different has less to do with the number of openings than with where they are landing.

The interesting story on Central Avenue in 2026 is a geographic one. Three specific blocks that were quiet or half-empty two years ago are now anchoring their own dining pockets, and a couple of neighborhood institutions residents were bracing to lose have been quietly caught by local operators instead. Here is what that actually looks like from the sidewalk.

The 500 Block Of Central Ave Finally Has Its Anchor

For most of the last decade, the 500 block of Central Avenue read as a walk-through between the 400 block bars and the Edge District. That changes with Central Park St. Pete, the five-story food hall from Hi Hospitality Group at 551 Central Avenue, in the former Woolworth building.

The scale is worth pausing on.
